Warm weather can bring bears out early

Image

Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokeswoman Lauren Truitt say bears usually wake up
from their deep winter sleep in March.

One bear snooping around a neighborhood back yard has already been captured in
Colorado Springs.

This winter we are experiencing consecutive weeks of 50 and 60 degree temperatures that
are setting records with the weatherman, and may stir bears out of hibernation earlier than
we've come to expect.

With dry conditions and spring growth yet to come, the season to be vigilant with trash and
bird feeders has already started.
